Friday Florals – Autumn Leaves

We’re enjoying lovely mild weather here in the UK but you can see the leaves are slowly turning to their autumnal shades of burnt orange and pale toffee. The landscape will soon become a photographer’s dream.

A crisp autumn day with blue skies and falling leaves is pretty hard to beat.

Bring it on.

Wednesday Wish List – A Butter Dish

On this week’s Wish List is the humble butter dish.

It has to be a plate with a deep lid rather than the other way around: easier to clean and also easier to get the butter out. I speak from experience.

I’m swaying between buying a vintage one or this lovely Anthropologie number:

Vintage glass is always a winner.

Friday Florals – London Fashion Week! #LFW

Couldn’t resist a self-indulgent post which allowed me to “research” all the latest catwalk offerings from London Fashion Week.

The designer that came up floral trumps has to be Temperley.

Such stunning dresses in the most beautiful prints.

Mary Katrantzou and Burberry Prorsum also got my vote.

Here are a few of my favourite floral picks:

Hand Painted Furniture Projects

Whilst I’m waiting for paint to dry I thought it’s about time I updated my blog on recent painting projects.

This was originally a glass fronted bookcase that was desperate for a new lease of life so I decided to revamp it as a cabinet. I did this by painting the exterior in Autentico’s Belgian Stone (a particular favourite colour of mine) and complimented the interior with Autentico’s Ice Cream. As with all my pieces it was then finished with a clear wax and I gave it a lightly distressed finish.

I then added a glass peach handle which just adds a pop of colour. Incidentally I could do with one if these myself looking at my glass collection!

Image

This next piece was a commission piece for a teenager’s bedroom. The brief was pastels so I chose these lovely colours, painted the main body white and lightly distressed it. Again, all Autentico paint colours.

The client was really pleased, particularly as her great-grandfather had originally made the piece!

Now this stunning walnut dressing table simply needed a polish as it was too beautiful to paint. It’s the delicate legs that really attracted me to it.

Image

This sweet nursing chair would have so many tales to tell I’m sure.

I painted the undercoat in a pretty lilac colour then added a white coat over the top so that when I distressed the paintwork the lilac colour shows through.

Perfect for a little girl’s bedroom.

Image

A commission piece for a client wanting a bookcase for her daughter’s bedroom. This time it was painted to match their current paintwork which happened to be a Farrow & Ball colour.

Image

This lovely chest of drawers featured in my last post and it sold so quickly that once I saw another set I had to have them! These are painted using Autentico’s Silver and Ice Cream on the inside of the drawers.

It’s the regal style handles that are the real feature of this piece.

Image

Ahh, now these lovelies are floating at the moment as I don’t know if I can bear to part with them!

They are a set of beautiful Victorian curved drawers on casters.

I chose a fabulous paint by Autentico called Winter Sky, which is a lovely blue/sage green colour that makes the handles really stand out.

Image

Apologies for the terrible quality of this next photo but hopefully you can see something of this lovely Edwardian wardrobe. A commission piece I sourced and painted for a client and it really is lovely.

So there we have it. Back to more painting and I shall post again soon.

I hope you like them, Sally x

Wednesday Wish List – A Sleeveless Jacket

It seems that in order to be a part of the fash pack this autumn/winter, a sleeveless blazer is de rigueur.

Excellent news as I am all for layering.

Victoria Beckham put this fashion piece on the map when she stepped out wearing a fabulous sleeveless jacket that simply oozed luxury. Even with this daring colour choice she still looks amazing.

This is once piece I will definitely be investing in and a couple have caught my eye from Toast and H&M. May also need some long gloves too…

There she goes again.

It’s all about the structured look this season.
