Wednesday Wish List – Decorating Walls & Doors

When I eventually get a minute from painting furniture I will turn my attention to my house.

I have been keen to paint my kitchen walls a dark grey for a while now, possibly Farrow & Ball Downpipe, and also paint the doors in the same colour.

Maybe I should go the whole hog and paint the kitchen units the same colour too…

In the meantime I’m using these images as inspiration, most of them are courtesy of the fabulous Farrow & Ball.

I hope you enjoy them.

Floral Friday – Floral Headpieces

Phew, with all the hailstones and occasional snow showers we’ve had I thought I’d brighten up these cold, winter days with a burst of summer floral headpieces, as adorned by the fabulous Elizabeth Taylor, Frida Kahlo and Billie Holiday.

Oh and a pony…

Wednesday Wish List – Headboards

Mr SWD and myself went bed shopping at the weekend, as I’ve been sleeping on the floor for far too many weeks than I care to count.

A series of back injuries that have occurred over the last 13 years are taking their toll and our crumby mattress on our crumby bed isn’t helping.

But hooray, we bought a new bed!

So now that I have a fabulous base and mattress I can now design a fabulous new headboard to match.

The question is do I go for a glamorous button backed, studded number or go for something more artistic such as a huge painting or find a vintage headboard on my travels…

This Week’s Painted Projects

The beginning of the week was very interesting.

I tried out something that I really didn’t think would work out that well and that was to paint fabric.

How wrong I was.

I’ve had these cream chairs for a while and they didn’t bode well with young children, subsequently they’ve been splattered with paint, various liquid refreshments, wet hair, cat paw prints and goodness know what else.

So I decided to paint the fabric as it couldn’t be any worse.

A couple of coats later and even a coat of wax later and they were transformed.

The texture isn’t dissimilar to leather, maybe not as shiny but a darn sight better than what they were.

Here is the evidence.

Next project was a lovely Edwardian dressing table that I decided to paint in a colour I hadn’t tried before and that was Autentico’s After Rain. A beautiful soft grey/ green colour that would compliment a wide range of colour schemes.

I particularly love the brass handles, which came up a treat with a bit  lot of elbow grease.

Finished with a clear wax and distressed finish.

So pretty.

Then I started on this lovely rustic farmhouse pine table.

I chose Annie Sloan’s Graphite for the top and Autentico’s Linen for the base.

I love how the dark grey paint makes everything pop.

Food on white plates would look so inviting on this table.

If I could find a space for it I think it would have been a keeper.

Finally I’m currently waiting for the paint to dry on two lovely single bed headboards but I think I shall have to post these next time.

Have a wonderful weekend

Sal xx
