Latest Painting Project – Edwardian Dressing Table.

After buying this beautiful Edwardian dressing table I hung onto it for a while hoping to make it work in my house but after much deliberation I had to accept the fact it was too big for any of our bedrooms. Sob.

So I got to work and painted some of the woodwork using Autentico’s Earth Stone chalk paint and re-waxed the gorgeous inlaid wood sections.

The mirror is just how I like it, beautifully foxed.

A stunning piece I hope you’ll agree.

Latest Painting Project – When Wood Is Good.

When I find a vintage piece of furniture that is in great condition I simply leave the wood to shine.

This fabulous Victorian chest of drawers needed some attention to the body but the drawer fronts were in beautiful condition.

I mixed deep blue and black chalk paints to create a lovely inky blue which contrasts beautifully with the flame mahogany drawer fronts and brass drop handles.

Turned feet on original castors.

Latest Painting Project – Deep Lavender Antique Bow Chest of Drawers.

So after a wonderful summer I’ve picked up the paintbrush again and got busy.

Here is a beautiful bow chest of drawers with the prettiest oval brass handles I ever did see.

I used a pale lavender as a base then applied a deep lavender over the top.

I got to work on the distressing as I wanted the paler lavender colour to show through.

Finished with both clear and black wax.

Latest Painting Project – Antique Chest of Drawers Painted Truffle.

I took the opportunity to use Annie Sloan’s new Black wax on this stunning antique chest of drawers.

I chose Autentico Truffle chalk paint which suits the black wax perfectly as it adds depth and texture to the piece rather than looking flat.

Beautiful turned handles and beaded drawers.

New Arrival – Fabulous 1920’s/30’s Walnut Cupboard.

This gorgeous walnut cupboard sang to me from across the room.

It was the shape of the legs and fold out cupboard doors that contrasted with the half circle handles that really caught my eye.

I whisked it off to my antiques restorer who did an amazing job of stripping it back and under his experienced eye he informed me that the piece is extremely well made as it has a solid back, the drawers are mahogany, solid walnut top, sides and shelves.

It’s virtually identical to a Heals piece of furniture but without the makers mark (or price tag!).

A charming piece I think you’ll agree.

Latest Painting Project – Truffle Chest of Drawers.

What catches my eye when buying a piece of furniture?

Proportions.

And this chest of drawers is a case in point.

The depth is half the width, it has 2 small drawers over 2 larger drawers, flat to the floor and the gorgeous brass linear style handles compliment the lines of the piece.

I chose Truffle chalk paint, a colour not dissimilar to Farrow and Ball’s Mouse’s Back, then finished with clear wax and gave it a lightly distressed finish.

Latest Painting Project – Georgian Bureau.

This was an unloved large piece of brown furniture that needed some tlc.

As soon as I got my hands on it I gave all the hardware some elbow grease and immediately could see how fabulous this piece was going to look.

I began with a few coats of Earth Stone chalk paint on the exterior, a lovely brown/grey colour.

Then I applied a coat of clear wax.

On top of that I painted a mixture of diluted pale grey chalk paint which was then wiped off with a clean cloth to create a layered effect and the whole piece was protected again with clear wax and given a distressed finish.

The interior I painted using both Graphite and Nearly Black chalk paints.

This paintwork was protected with dark wax and lightly distressed.

A wonderful piece with oodles of storage that is both practical and beautiful.

Currently for sale – £425.00.
