Latest Painting Project – Ladies Bureau.

This bureau is the sweetest piece of furniture.

I wanted to choose delicate colours as I envisaged this piece sitting in a bedroom so I chose Linen for the exterior and Duck Egg for the interior.

The whole piece was then painted with a white wash and protected with a coat of clear wax.

I then added a gorgeous new key tassel which compliments both colours perfectly.

Thrilled to bits with the final finish.

Currently for sale – £325.00

Latest Painting Project – Vintage Bureau With Secret Drawers.

I have painted a number of bureaus now and this one in particular was a delight as I discovered three secret drawers I didn’t know existed.

On opening the bureau lid I realised that what I thought was carving detail was in fact two pull out drawers, genius.

Then when I opened the small inner cupboard door the top piece that again I thought was simply detail also pulled out to reveal a drawer.

The perfect piece in which to store passports, important documents or love letters!

I know, I know, who sends love letters anymore?

Anyway I chose Nearly Black chalk paint for the exterior and Nautique for the interior.

A beautiful contrast in colours.

Waxed and lightly distressed finish.

Latest Painting Project – Georgian Bureau.

This was an unloved large piece of brown furniture that needed some tlc.

As soon as I got my hands on it I gave all the hardware some elbow grease and immediately could see how fabulous this piece was going to look.

I began with a few coats of Earth Stone chalk paint on the exterior, a lovely brown/grey colour.

Then I applied a coat of clear wax.

On top of that I painted a mixture of diluted pale grey chalk paint which was then wiped off with a clean cloth to create a layered effect and the whole piece was protected again with clear wax and given a distressed finish.

The interior I painted using both Graphite and Nearly Black chalk paints.

This paintwork was protected with dark wax and lightly distressed.

A wonderful piece with oodles of storage that is both practical and beautiful.

Currently for sale – £425.00.

Latest Painting Project – Edwardian Secretaire.

This Edwardian secretaire was a labour of love.

I really wanted to transform it from its original dour state to a piece that would shine in a room.

I chose Autentico’s Wilderness chalk paint for the exterior under which I painted Sailor Blue as the two colours work brilliantly together.

Once the piece was waxed I lightly distressed the paintwork so that hints of the blue paint would show through.

The interior I painted using Annie Sloan’s fabulous Primer Red.

The perfect contrast against the green and I managed to source a key tassel in the same Primer Red colourway.

The original leather insert was badly damaged so I replaced it with a piece of navy felt and edged it with a lovely vintage green braid.

Latest Painting Project – Bureau.

This particular bureau has been sold to lady who is going to use it as a dressing table.

This particular colour combination is popular so I used the same again which is Nearly Black for the exterior and Nautique (a duck egg) for the interior.

Always lovely to have that element of surprise when you open a piece of furniture.

Now sold but please contact me if you’d like a piece of furniture sourcing.

I was extremely tempted to keep this beautiful Victorian wind out dining table but alas it has been reserved for a customer before I had time to decide.

Not surprisingly really as it seats twelve with the two extra leaves and it has beautiful legs on castors but I think the clincher was depth of the table, measuring 122cm, a true room filler.

Hand painted using Linen chalk paint, lightly distressed and finished with a coat of clear matt varnish.

I bought another bureau and decided to paint it in the same colours as the last one as I just loved the combo.

Nearly Black and Duck Egg.

Such a great piece for either a bedroom, living room or study.

This one has a working key too.

There is something lovely about round and oval dining tables where everyone can talk to each other rather than being restricted to chatting to the person next to or opposite you, unless you choose to shout across the table or play musical chairs.

This particular antique table has a lovely carved stem and legs on castors which I painted using Earth Stone chalk paint and chose a complimentary colour for the top, Nearly Black paint.

Waxed and distressed finish then a buff to create a lovely sheen.

Seats 6 and is currently for sale at £275.00.

So this is my first bureau I’ve painted and I rather love it.

A perfect stylish solution for the home office and I could even see it in a bedroom or sitting room.

Again I chose another of my favourite paint colours, Nearly Black for the exterior and a contrasting colour of Duck Egg for the interior.

I gave the brass ring pull handles a good clean, waxed and distressed the wood so that the geometric pattern on the front of the drawers really came through.

The carvings on this fabulous mahogany bedside cabinet really came to life now that they have been painted and distressed.

I used Almond chalk paint then waxed and distressed finish.

I also love the deep inner drawers with brass handles, perfect for storage.
